Teardown Steps Presentation on iPhone 12 and Repair Tips

The iPhone 12 has been launched on the global market this October. This new iPhone model has become the hottest sale smartphone model this year. Since we can see the differences of this new model on the appearance, we are still curious about the inside parts and structure of iPhone 12. This is the teardown steps we would like to present here. Besides, we will share with you tips about iPhone 12 teardown and repair on the following, hope you would be interested if you know iPhone repair.

1. Tear down and separate the iPhone 12 display screen

Power off the iPhone, eject and take out the SIM card firstly. Unbolt the two pentalobe screws on the bottom. Use hot air gun to blow on the display edge and corners, then use suction cup to pull the display out. Use hard plastic plectrum to slice and separate the display screen. Flip over the display, loosen the Phillips screws and remove the metal shield for fixing the display flex cables. Disconnect the flex cables so that we can totally take off the display screen.

2. Tear down the iPhone 12 inner small parts

Loosen the screws and remove the metal shield for fixing the rear-facing cameras. Disconnect and take off the rear cameras. Unbolt the screws and take off the plastic panel beside the cameras. Loosen the screws and take down the loudspeaker with flex cable, then the iPhone SIM card reader. Screw off and take down the iPhone taptic engine. Disconnect the front-facing cameras and then take off the camera module with spudger.

3. Tear down the iPhone 12 battery and logic board

Since the logic board flex is connected closely beside the battery, here we can unbolt the screws for fixing the logic board. Use spudger to pry and take off the logic board from the back housing, and leave the flex cables connected. Tear off and pull out the battery adhesive sticker beneath the battery with tweezers carefully, then we can take down the iPhone battery from the back housing. Loosen the screws and remove the metal panel for fixing the logic board flex, then take off the logic board entirely.

As final tips about iPhone 12 teardown process, the iPhone logic board flex has two branches of flex cables, which are closely connected on the side of the battery. To take off the logic board, we need to take down the battery beforehand. The iPhone wireless charging coil is closely stick on the back housing, it is no need to take further teardown process on it. The iPhone 12 small parts and the components are tiny, we need to be careful on classification, don’t mess them up or miss any of them.

How to Change an iPhone 11 to iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is launching on the phone market this October. Although it is a time we still have to wait to see this new iPhone module in the flagship store, some of the third-party iPhone 12 back housing has been manufactured. Based on this, we are trying to modify a new iPhone 12 phone by replacing the iPhone 11 parts in the back housing. Let’s check the specific steps below.

1. Tear down the iPhone 11 and take off all the inside parts and components

Unbolt the two screws on the button and use a hot air gun to blow on the iPhone 11 display. Use a suction cup and an ultra-thin plastic sheet to slice and separate the display. Flip over the display after it is separated, unbolt the screws and take off the metal shield for fixing the display flex cables. Disconnect and take down the display from the iPhone 11. Take off the taptic engine and the loudspeaker first, then the SIM card tray slot, eject and take out the SIM card beforehand. Disconnect and take off the battery from the iPhone after that. Unbolt the screws and pry out to take off the charging port connector flex, then disconnect and take off the rear-facing cameras and front-facing camera module. Takedown the logic board and bottom flex as well. Take off all the side keys and flex, and the power button flex at last.

2. Assemble all the iPhone 11 parts and components to the iPhone 12 back housing

After all the iPhone 11 inside parts are taken off, here we need to assemble them to the iPhone 12 back housing. Apply the wireless charging coil first on the back housing. Assemble the side key buttons, tighten the screws, and the small metal shield to fix them. Install the dust-proof into the loudspeaker, and then assemble the power button flex. Install the Bluetooth flex, the logic board, and the iPhone 11 rear-facing camera with flex cable onto the back housing, connect the flex cables. Assemble the charging port flex and tighten the screws for fixing it. Install the taptic engine and loudspeaker, connect the flex cables, and fix the cable with a metal shield. Install the SIM card slot and fasten the screws, then install the battery. Don’t forget to past the battery sticker tape on it.

3. Install the iPhone 11 display, turn on the iPhone and test the functions

After all the inside parts are installed, we need to assemble the iPhone 11 display screen on to the iPhone. Apply the water-proof frame sticker on the back housing. Connect the flex cables, place the metal shield, and tighten the screws for fixing it. Insert the SIM card tray into the phone. Assemble the display and make sure it is tightly sealed on the back housing. Turn on the phone and test the functions, such as the screen sensitiveness, the cameras, the Bluetooth connection, the auto-brightness function, the face ID, etc. Make sure all the functions are normal.

There is something we have to notice during the process. Some of the iPhone 11 parts and screws are tiny, we need to be careful about classification. Don’t mess them up or miss any part. The flex is easy to break, just be careful while tearing down. In the end, it is recommended to go to Etrade Supply for iPhone 11 replacement parts if you are interested in our modification test. Fix the iPhone Incoming Calls not Show on Sleep Mode

The iPhone incoming calls not show when on sleep mode. This issue exists because of the faulty signal baseband component on the logic board. The normal repair solution is taking out the logic board, checking the baseband, and replacing the faulty component. The process would be difficult and complex. Here we can connect a wire from the baseband wake signal point to the WiFi wake signal point to borrow the signal so that the problem would be solved. Check the detailed steps below.

1. Tear down the iPhone screen and take off the logic board

Hot air gun blow on the display, unbolt and take off the two screws on the bottom. Slice and separate the display screen. Disconnect the display flex cables and the battery flex cable, take off the display. Eject and take out the SIM card. Snap and remove the screws, take off the metal panel. Take out the motherboard carefully with tweezers. Fix the motherboard on the PCB motherboard holder. Use a hot air gun to blow on the motherboard and tear off the heat-resistant tape on the back slowly.

2. Confirm the signal points and solid tin wire to connect the points

From the Sitemap software on the computer, we can see all the component location and signal points. Confirm the baseband wake signal point location and the WiFi wake signal point location on the software, and then confirm the points on the motherboard. Scratch off the insulating coat from the two points, paste some solder glue on the two points. Solder a tin wire to connect the two points, then coat the wire with a UV solder mask.

3. Install the logic board back to the iPhone and assemble the iPhone

Take off the motherboard from the PCB board after the solder is solidified. Install the motherboard to the iPhone. Connect the iPhone X display screen with flex cables and the battery cable. Insert the SIM card back into the iPhone. Turn on the iPhone and try to call the numbers with another phone. The incoming calls show when the iPhone is on sleep mode. The repair procedure is successful. Turn off the iPhone again. Fix the metal panel and tighten the screws back. Assemble the iPhone. All process is completed.

The process above is fast and efficient to solve the iPhone incoming calls not showing on the sleep mode problem. We don’t have to tear down the logic board and check the PMU and baseband CPU. This has saved us a lot of time and work. As a premise, we need to know how to tear down the iPhone X series and replace the iPhone X parts well. Stick on the Etrade Supply blog and you will learn much about iPhone repair.
